UKULELE HUNT UKULELE LESSONS for ALL LEVELS

This Humble Uker always bows to the Prolific and Talented One, yes -- Alistair Wood the creator of UKULELE HUNT is now breaking things down for learners in every stage. That's what I am all about here - learning how to play music on the little instrument. Al shares a dose of his thoughts on musical topics and he generously shares CHORD and TAB arrangements almost daily.

I also put a link in my MUSIC STUDY, TOOLS section. Thanks Al, HU

Alistair Wood UKULELE HUNT smashing interview with MICHELLE BLADES

Fantastic Interview... I love Michelle's instructions for creating music! Thanks Al!!!

[Click blog entry title to go to UKULELE HUNT]

Michelle's YT page http://www.youtube.com/user/michelleblades

Here she plays and uses the Low D? String to enhance the song...

Hey another Baritone!

Fine print for me ONLY (Go to Ukulele Hunt and read the interview)
Since I usually improv the stuff, I think Kerouac said it best when he created the “rules” for spontaneous prose. Here’s a few that would answer the question:
2. Submissive to everything, open, listening
5. Something that you feel will find its own form
6. Be crazy dumbsaint of the mind
8. Write what you want bottomless from bottom of the mind
9. The unspeakable visions of the individual
10. No time for poetry but exactly what is
12. In tranced fixation dreaming upon object before you
13. Remove literary, grammatical and syntactical inhibition
17. Write in recollection and amazement for yourself
19. Accept loss forever
21. Struggle to sketch the flow that already exists intact in mind
22. Dont think of words when you stop but to see picture better
24. No fear or shame in the dignity of yr experience, language & knowledge
25. Write for the world to read and see yr exact pictures of it
28. Composing wild, undisciplined, pure, coming in from under, crazier the better
29. You’re a Genius all the time

Erika Helvetica Ukes || Tetris || Woodshed Arrangement

I liked Erika's rendition of a Madonna song I saw on the UCB site. So I investigated a bit and found this little finger picking piece. Sir Ukey Alistair Woodshed has tabbed it out (see below). Also click on the blog title to see more of Erika's uking.

UKULELE SODOKU || www.ukulelehunt.com

French Polynesia
...
If you want a regular dose of tablature to tease your fingers with (and practice counting out notes in measures, like me) then I recommend being on Alistair Wood's e-mail list. He regularly posts rock guitar riff's as part of his daily posting repetoire. Since I mix in a dash of work betwixt my ukulele playing I think of it as work for the brain - a bit of Ukulele Sodoku!
.

.
Remember, I am just a humble uker and I can't blast thru these songs as quickly as Al does, But some of the melodies are quite interesting even if slowed down. Al is a first class, top shelf blogger/musician and puts an mp3 of each song with the post. As I write this, I think of course y'all know Ukulele Hunt by now -- but perhaps there's one person still out there.

As a kid I was a philatelist, oh no! - and still love those miniature masterpieces! HU

Geo. Formby inspiration to a Beatle or two...

Alistair Wood scoops another BIG STORY. Always at the forefront of Ukulele Scoopdom he tells quite a story about the most unusual combination of ukulele music, musicians and singers doing every song in the beatles catalogue...

Doogey Makes a Simple Pitch: Ukulele Hunt Tees

Hey, I like the ukulele aspect of the this advertisement. Besides, Alistair Wood's Ukulele Hunt, being the most prolific daily ukulele on-line magazine, it is just a really solid place to go for information. So Doogey is Todd Baio. I do love the simple rhythm which he executes so sweetly.

ALISTAIR WOOD BLUES UKULELE

ALISTAIR WOOD BLUES UKULELE

Al is on TOP of everything ukululu on the internet. Sometimes I post a partial and plan to come back and expound on a video. Al, is another e-friend, someone I've never met but shared e-mails and enjoyed his labours (English for labor) and gifts to the community. And he was thanking me for the post within about an hour of it's posting. I know he spends quite a bit of time each day, searching, getting e-mails from all over the world, and providing top notch quality information out for us all to enjoy.

ALISTAIR THIS IS MY BIG THANK YOU!

I really like your JUMP BLUES on p.18 of the Blues Ukulele Book

----oO--<*>--Oo----

I hadn't seen this one of Al's Blues Ukulele videos before. I need to read more of his Blues Ukulele Book - It looks like a lot of fun. I have been thinking about my new friend, Judy Plicka, who it turns out, taught at my high school starting the year after I graduated. Judy, has been playing in bands for 37 years. She's got the skills and techniques to turn an average band into a good sounding band with her fingerpicking out melodies in a moments notice. Judy has a handicap that affects her right hand and she has adapted her finger picking to work around it. I woulda never known.

Judy has her father going in for heart surgery next Wednesday and has asked for the following:

STATISTICS, UKULELE Blogging & THE KING

--)0(--
.
I added a counter to my blog just about 8 days ago. It comes with a statistics counter. I have a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mathematics with a minor in Statistics. So I do like to read numbers. While I went to college I built a different career in construction and now only use advanced high school mathematics on a daily basis. My Danish Friend, Mr. Kim J., has been encouraging me to get a counter on my blog. I am using http://www.statcounter.com/ and I'm impressed with the plethura, (3 Amigos lingo from El Guapo) of statistics that can be provided for FREE.

I am having fun seeing what people are finding the most popular, what photos are being collected, what countries people are searching from, etc. I took a look earlier in the day and found a SPIKE of about 170 over the average. I saw that there were numerous looks at the 3 Seated Ladies with the Banjo Ukes. Turns out the FRIENDLY KING of the ukulele blogging world made a one-line comment on the photo and WHAMMO! Alistair has the power of the pen!

Here's the best thing about looking at the stats though -- It encourages me to look backwards and relook at things that I had written before. Sometimes I forget. Here's a good old one. It also has some photos of King Alistair making faces. I think he must be on a witness protection plan because he keeps those photos quite small.

No Tears In Heaven / Todd B. (doogey9)

Alistair Wood is back posting the best videos. This song was truly heartfelt and beautifully performed by Todd B. (Doogey9 on YT). I have listened to several of his songs, read some of his responses about the good sounds coming from cheap ukuleles, and check out his el cheapo foot percussion accompaniment. Great fun! We all should have a sign for "ukulele break time"

Al always get me started with some great stuff to research.

I have been thinking about those touches, "riffs" and "runs" that bring sweetness to a song. This video has those. I would like to explore this more for different keys. I think when Uncle Larry Martin gets back from Hawaii I am going to have to pay him a visit.

IT IS SO VERY TRUE...

{Boy, I've been working toooo hard. My spelling has been terrible}

Midsomer Murders

BBC Midsomer Murders - Inspector Barnaby

This British series has been running for 12 seasons now. My wife and I love this show. British shows have so much on American TV. The characters are deep and are not all models. The theme song from MM is haunting and addicting. Alistair Hunt of Ukulele Hunt put the song in TAB, here...

BARITONE UKULELE HUNT

HERE'S AN e-MAIL THAT I RECEIVED FROM ALISTAIR OF UKULELE HUNT...

Hi Jeff,

I remember you did a post a while back about tabs and chords for the baritone and how hard they are to find. Due to public demand, I've decided to do a baritone site: http://baritoneukulelehunt.com/
It's not going to be updated anywhere near as often as my main - just when the fancy takes me.
Thanks Al
----
JEFF'S QUESTIONS:
1) Are you planning on doing songs in Low or High D tuning?
2) Do you have some friendly Ukulele-Hunt-ers that know straight guitar tunes that are played solely on the DGBE portion of the instrument?
Thank you very much Al,
Jeff

ALISTAIR WOOD - How to Play Ukulele - Blues Uke

http://howtoplayukulele.com/

http://ukulelehunt.com/

Alistair must be the most prolific proponent of the ukulele in the world. I have been a junkie for ukulele information for the last 2-and-a-half-years. (This blog is my place to keep my findings for my future reference for sharing with local ukeclub members and other enthusiasts.) Al has shared so much with me and I am always impressed with his enthusiasm, knowledge and competency to create nicely published ukulele ebooks at really low prices.

His new book is How to Play Blues Ukulele. It is $15 until the end of October, and $17 thereafter. After paying for the book it is emailed to you and you can print it out immediately! It comes with (80) mp3’s and (4) backing tracks to play along with!

Al also says he has a SECRET project but since he’s posted it on the internet, somehow, the secret has slipped out…
.
“I've already been working away on my next ukulele project. This one is going to be a little different I've been putting together a collaboration with tabs and arrangements from a bunch of people. It's early days yet and I don't want to jinx it, but I'll throw caution to the wind and let you in on who else is involved so far: James Hill, Mark Kailana Nelson and Dominator. Best of all, the proceeds from it will be going to Ukuleles for Peace. And that's all I'm saying for now. Lips sealed.”

THE DITTY BOPS || ALISTAIR'S UKE HUNT BLOG

I like the sweet sound of these talented, young and sexy musicians. They have some creative videos on YouTube that combine their music with interesting sets, images, and tasteful but minimal clothing. C'est la vie, qui, I am a man.

Besides the uke, I have always loved to travel by bicycle. They made a trek across the USA via bicycle. I'm impressed.

The 2 videos below have some small ukulele sequences in them. I have one of their CD's, the Ditty Bops. Which is a great little production and includes an old-time favorite, "I wish I could shimmy like my sister Kate".

I have a beat up sheet music of the song. The words and music are by A.J. Piron. Alistair Wood just posted the chords for the song on http://www.ukulelehunt.com/, you can click here to get the song directly...
.
Besides his Ukulele Hunt and his How to Play Ukulele books he has also started a blog as another way to follow up on the loose ends of his many contacts, conversations, and e-mails of all things ukulele, http://ukuleleonline.com/ , so that now everyone can read them.

Alistair WOOD / Ukulele Hunt / ENGLAND

This is a camp photo from my collection of player photos, is that Alistair?

---
This Humble Uker has a not so humble friend, yes it’s Alistair Hunt. Al is a master musician, webjunkie, and he claims and can provide documentation for being the number one ukesite on the web. I believe him and I know why he’s tops:
  • Ukulele Hunt can be subscribed to as a daily feed direct to your e-mail
  • Ukulele Hunt frequently posts songs with TABS
  • Ukulele Hunt frequently posts songs with CHORDS
  • Ukulele Hunt frequently works out popular riffs with TABS
  • Ukulele Hunt has Music Theory, Ukulele 101 Hints, and Practical Advice, see http://ukulelehunt.com/2007/08/02/how-i-work-out-chords/#more-238
  • Alistair has also made a few ukulele books that are sold at true bargain prices and you can print them on your printer.
    - How to Play National Anthems
    - How to Play Ukulele Chord Progressions
    - How to Play Ragtime Ukulele
    - How to Play Christmas Ukulele
    - Ukulele 101

I have been sending e-mails to my ukulele friends for over a year and I must confess that much of my inspiration comes from Woodshed’s daily feed. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
