Lil' Rev Anounces his partnership with Kala Ukuleles

Lil' Rev has been one of my favorite ukulele players because of his energy, wit, and skill. He is a multi-instrumentalist but tours around the country with his ukulele. I have ALL of his beginner's books and I'm looking forward to two more coming out. One is a songbook of Lil' Rev's music and the second is called 101 Licks for the Ukulele. Here's some news from Lil' Rev...
.
Lil' Rev and Kala have teamed up to present a traveling workshop for absolute beginners, called: Uke Can Too, which will teach basic strumming, two chord songs, silly tricks and much more! As Lil Rev tours extensively around the U.S.
.
He is often asked if he has a workshop for absolute beginners and this is his answer to that question. Thanks to Kala, for providing 24 Thin Body Travel Ukes to Lil Rev so he can now accommodate up to 24 students. The best part of this deal for those looking to get started on the ukulele and see if they like it, is that Kala and Local Music Stores will be underwriting the cost of this workshop and newcomers will be treated to a free 90 minute workshop, that's right free! So watch to see if Lil Rev is coming to your town to teach his Uke Can Too workshop.
.
As many of you know, Lil Rev is the author of the Hal Leonard Method Book Series and is a former Grade School Music Teacher and College Lecturer with extensive experience working with both kids and adults. His approach is fun, educational and enthusiastic, making him a much sought after teacher and performer on the international ukulele circuit.

Strum Masters || Tiamane & Lil' Rev. & Ukulele Dick

Tiamane strum variations

Lil' Rev strum variations

Hey, where's Ukulele Dick? We'll he's a local favorite with amazing ukulele personality. You can see him playing with Sandor and the UkeAholics in the next posted blog entry video, but you're really not getting a good dose of his ukulele strumming talents. Sorry, but I couldn't find a YT video that did his talents justice. I'll keep looking.

Also, to the powers that be at the Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz,
I think a Ukulele Dick strumming workshop is way overdue!

Lil' Rev has a new book for 2011 || 101 Licks for the UKULELE

Over the past year Ukulele Teacher Lil' Rev has been offering a class called: Hot Licks For Ukulele to much acclaim and positive feedback. The workshop is a collection of intros, endings, fills, riffs, and licks from the Blues, Jazz, Country, Bluegrass and Rock traditions all arranged for Ukulele. If you have had the good fortune to take this workshop, the good news is that soon it will come out in book form thru Lil Rev's Publisher, Hal Leonard Publishing under the title: 101 Licks for Ukulele. The will come with a CD of the licks and be available sometime in 2011. Watch for it.
.
I have enjoyed Lil' Rev's workshops and books, and Hal Leonard's books are priced quite reasonably and will add to your Uke Book Collection.

Lil' Rev plays a Swedish tune || FINJETTA

See www.lilrev.com for more videos and photos
...
These men are two of my favorites. John King was a master and proponent of great ukulele playing and made great strides to share ukulele history. His books are the standards for all other ukulele books to come. Lil' Rev besides being a great person, he's also a storyteller, teacher, and proponent of traditions. He plays ukulele with so much flair. Be sure to check out his
West Coast tour dates posted previously.

LIL' REV

I swiped this photo from Lil' Rev's website. Click the blog title above to go directly there. Here Rev is with Rose Turtle Ertler. I was her groupie when she played in Santa Cruz and Berkeley. Actually, I am not the groupie type -- But I saw her perform 3 places over her short stay in the San Francisco Bay Area.
.
I have been thinking about Rev's style and the way he varies strums and picking. I posted these so that I can take some time to watch his style. How he creates interest by changing things up.

Just got a copy of Lil' Rev's new CD. He's got that good old hill country "barefoot" picking style
mixed with beautiful strumming skills. The Rev. shows a bit of the mischievious side in this CD. He has always been one of my favorite performers, storytellers and teachers. His use and skills on the ukulele are a joy to watch and listen to.
][
I heard his song, Boodle Am Shake, and liked the picking flavor. I googled for the chords and the master of all ukulele websites, Alistair Wood, surprised me by already having a posting of the song along with the finger picking licks and solid chords up the neck...

LIL' REV NEW BOOKS || www.lilrev.com

Lil' Rev is a great storyteller, multi-instrumentalist, and teacher from Wisconsin. He is very talented but what I like most is his interest in storytelling and using music as a way to tell about American history and American traditions. He has also created a few beginning ukulele player books. I have the Hal Leonard BOOK 1 and have been inquiring about the availability of BOOK 2 for some months. He just sent me a flyer and he's got BOOK 2 out and also another book called EASY SONGS FOR UKULELE. I have asked Rev to put a Klezmer song in his next book and he's planning on it.
