LOCAL NEWS: GLEN ROSE CLASSES

Glen Rose - Jazzy Blues Workshop
Thursday August 19, 2010 at the Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz

Sophisticated Blues with Jazz Ukulele Chords

Get your ukulele to cry out with some jazzy blues sounds. With just a few, easy-to-make jazz chords and patterns, you’ll learn how jazz players create that cool groove when they get together to jam. These hip jazz blues chords and patterns are fun to play and jam on, and have a more sophisticated sound than the usual three-chord blues. Get new rhythm ideas for the jazz blues too.

The ability to play simple bar chords or be willing to try is all that is necessary for this workshop.

Glen Rose is a professional jazz musician and college music teacher with four popular jazz ukulele books published. He leads his “Jazzy Ukulele” workshops around the West Coast and is sponsored by Riptide Ukulele.

Here's a testimonial from a recent Jazzy Ukulele class attendee...

"Well, it definitely was a great workshop with Glen Rose. Along with the 35+ attendees, I certainly learned how easy it is to work a jazz sound into so many uke tunes, and the possibilities may be endless. But, rather than work on my own, Glen Rose will be following up with the second session of his Jazzy Ukulele approach in just over a week at DaSilva Ukulele Co. If you were here for the first workshop, please join us again for Jazzy Ukulele, Part Two. If you were not with us, please be assured that the concept, approach, and Glen's teaching style will get you up and running quickly if you can handle some simple bar chords. Hope you can make it."

The Jazzy Uke Man GLEN ROSE is coming to SF Bay

I have been meaning to post this for quite some time. Glen Rose is an amazing Jazz Pianist and Historian. He also performs with guitar and now has brought his talents and insights together to share beautiful ukulele music too. This video of an all time classic is an example of what Glen has to offer.

He plays here on a MODIFIED baritone, it is soprano tuned G-C-E-A and has a low G. Glen is trying to get a broader range of notes. I am glad he's doing this work in standard soprano tuning because that is the most prevalent tuning. I have two main players that are both concert sized instruments, one is standard high-G and the other is low-G. I think every one should have atleast one of each!
