Istanbul (Not Constantinople) The 4 Lads 1953

This song was sung at the open mic night at the Ukulele club of Santa Cruz by Julie. She sang and played it beautifully. I thought it would be fun to try it. I noticed that the YT video comments were turned off because of political issues. Please no political comments here, just enjoy the music and the melody. Wikipedia gave hints that this may have "sprung" from the popularity of Irving Berlin's "Putting on the Ritz." HU

In an attempt to provide GOOD knowledge (as Greg Brown would say it), here is a link to the original THE 4 LADS lyrics from 1953. http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~yavuzcet/lyrics.htm and I'll link to Julie's version as soon as I figure out how.

Here's the They Might Be Giants version...

  1. Julie did a very nice version of this, didn't she? I worked this up awhile back, enjoying the cartoon someone did on YouTube to accompany the TMBG version practically as much as the tune itself. (You might have heard me tunelessly singing along to her rendition...!)
