AMANDA: What's on that UKULELE?

http://www.uketoob.com/ posted a video of this young lady playing. I noticed her ukulele and it looked like she stuck a playing card woven between the strings at the bridge like kids used to do with playing cards on their bicycle wheels. She also has a black stripe across her red ukulele which I think she wore off the paint using a pick. What do you think that was? The uke sounded so crisp and clear that she must've had a microphone real close.

Amanda Palmer covers Radiohead's "Creep" on the ukulele in Portland, Oregon on July 9th, 2009. Here's some chords and and less colorful lyrics, at this link...

  1. Hey Humble - Love the site!

It does look like a playing card. Not sure if it's touching the strings for sound, or if it's there to protect the uke from her evil pick. Will try one tonight to see how it sounds.

  2. I accidentally found out putting a sheet of paper between the strings and sound hole gives the uke a banjo-like sound but the paper kept slipping out.
