Kaleponi (California) Strings was the first group I joined in back when Uncle Hollis was the leader and the group met in a middle school music room in Hayward, CA. I remember strumming on my old 1950's style Harmony and always being behind, fingers feeling like pretzels, and listening to beautiful Kamaka ukuleles and Hapa Haole songs. Kaleponi Strings has continued to thrive after the passing of the generous uncle.
